Se guérir du ravage

I was always told that an epiphany is the sudden understanding of the essence or meaning of something. Yet it remains unspeakable. Only traces of possible contemplation remain, an essential attentiveness. In this series, monumentality drives the desire to invite the viewer to participate. Beyond the image, painting presents itself as an open experiential proposition.
Healing from devastation is also the result of a fascination with the delicate balance of signs of endings, moments of transition where the unfinished, the rubble, and the remnants become points of departure.
Between the fantasy of refuge and ways of imagining life in a worn, ever-changing world, I embrace the idea of a certain wandering toward vastness, where, as Marielle Macé reminds us, it is possible to “face this world, and this present, otherwise—with their destruction, their remnants, but also their possibilities for escape.”

The creation of this series also relied on the artisanal production of pigments for the preparation of the paints. It was essential for me to immerse myself in the colors of territories that, in a way, nourished this sense of a “refuge place.”
I wished to work in proximity to a certain feeling, attuned to the sensations these spaces evoke, and to attempt to approach them by composing with their own colors: a sampling conceived as an invitation to care. There is, in particular, an interest in the experience of sensation in relation to the landscape, beyond its mere appearance.

In this way, some of the colors used come from mineral materials sourced from different locations: the Italian Dolomites and their mountain range; the hills and mountains of the Salzburg region in Austria; the Zaboeira region in Portugal; and bricks from construction ruins with various geographic origins.

Healing from Devastation is the result of gathering these colors, like a ritual collection, in the manner of talismans. All of these places carry a fragile richness, shaped by their natural preservation and constantly threatened by the contemporary Anthropocene. Between fascination, homage, and the hope of escape, this series constitutes an attempt to trace lines of flight and beginnings to dream in the face of devastation.
